The Dental Implant Process
Our implant team work with you throughout each stage
There are four clear stages to the dental implant process. We will work with you to make sure you understand each stage of the implant process, what can be expected for your specific case, and how long it will take to complete each phase. We encourage our patients to ask questions so they actively understand the entire process. Our goal is to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible, as we work together, throughout the implant process to help improve your smile.
The basic stages of getting Dental Implants:
Planning- This is crucial to the long term success for the anticipated treatment. At this stage, you will meet with Dr. Chopra and Dr. Stastny on a consultation basis to discuss the treatment options available for you. We will need to make molds of your teeth and take a panoramic radiograph ( full mouth x-ray) to evaluate the bone in greater detail to see if we have an adequate quantity and quality of bone for the future placement of implants.
Implant Placement -This stage takes 1-3 hours and is an outpatient procedure where the Dr. Stastny places the titanium dental implant. When appropriate, a surgical guide is made to allow for precise positioning of the implant.
Tooth Restoration -The healing phase takes 2-6 months depending upon your healing potential. Dr. Chopra, will then work with you over the next few appointments to make molds and measurements for the final restoration. This phase is very detailed oriented. Here, cosmetics and function come together to give an esthetically pleasing and functional result.
Maintenance- We follow up with our patients to ensure the that you are comfortable and satisfied with your results. We recommend annual exams with us to ensure the ongoing maintenance of your new smile.
Why Dental Implants
Dental Implants are the natural choice
In many situations, dental implants are the treatment of choice in the replacement of missing teeth. The process of dental implant placement is now a straightforward procedure, and, we believe it is best performed by dental specialists. Titanium cylinders are placed into the jawbone to support the replacement teeth. Because the titanium bonds with the jaw bone, in a process termed “osseointegration”, it creates a strong foundation, allowing your replacement teeth to look and perform like natural teeth.
With the latest advances in technology and treatment procedures, dental implants have become routine procedures and have shown long term success for patients. Dental Implants and implant supported crowns, bridges and dentures are becoming the treatment of choice to replace missing teeth.
Life-changing Benefits of Dental Implants:
Renewed confidence.
An attractive smile.
Relief from the pain of irritating removable dentures.
Greater oral health.
Streamlined oral care and hygiene.
More freedom to eat whatever you please.
It is not supposed to hurt.

Multiple Dental Implants
No job is too big for dental implants!
If you are missing several or all of your teeth, dental implants can solve the challenges you currently face.
Implant Supported Dentures
The REMOVABLE approach:
Dental implants eliminate the slipping, irritation, maintenance, adhesives and pain associated with “floating” removable dentures. With dental implants, your dentures will “snap” into place causing them to feel much more like natural teeth. This is called an implant supported denture, or implant retained denture. Did you know that 80% of a conventional upper denture is only there to provide the suction to hold them in place? This 80%, which includes the palate and a good deal of the peripheral flanges, can be removed when “snaplike” attachments are used on dental implants to secure the dentures. This 20% is the cosmetic and “business part” of the denture.
The FIXED approach:
Fixed Dentures- Dental implants are placed to replace the missing tooth roots. The implant remains covered underneath the gum for approximately 2-6 months while the bone grows to the titanium. The implants are uncovered and abutments are attached, creating the foundation for your new teeth.
Your new teeth, crafted to the optimal size, shape, color and fit to blend with your facial characteristics, are placed on the abutments, and a conventional fixed bridge is made in the normal way.
The HYBRID approach:
Alternatively, a “Hybrid” carries all missing teeth and is fixed into place by the prosthodontist. These are never removed and give a most natural feeling of being able to forget about your past history of lost teeth! This is really a life changing experience for our patients.
Single Dental Implant
Single tooth dental implant -The loss of a single tooth can gravely affect your smile and ability to chew. On top of that, to replace the missing tooth, traditional dentistry would remove the healthy teeth to either side of the missing tooth and then replace the entire section with a three-crown “bridge”, or worse still, a removable denture.
Dental implants are changing this process. Instead of cutting down two perfectly healthy teeth, we instead insert a single dental implant into the jawbone to replace your missing tooth root. Once this becomes solidly integrated into your jaw bone (2-6 months) we place an abutment and crown onto it. This crown looks and feels like your natural tooth, and doesn’t disrupt the healthy teeth you still have.
The process for placing a single dental implant: A dental implant is placed in the jaw bone to replace the missing tooth root. The implant remains covered underneath the gum for approximately 2 to 6 months while the bone grows to the titanium.
The implant is uncovered and an abutment is attached, creating a foundation for your new tooth. Your new tooth is placed on the abutment. This tooth will be crafted to the optimal size, shape, color and fit to blend with your natural teeth.
